Ivedent Lloyd of Ocala , Florida has laid claim to his first career O'Reilly Southern All Star Racing Series Championship. The five-time National Late Model Series Champion bested three time runner-up Mark Vineyard by just twenty-six points which was the second closest margin of victory in OSAS history. Lloyd took the title on the strength of seven top five and seventeen top ten finishes. Lloyd was held winless on the season but did pick up a Southern All Stars East Twin Twenty victory at Golden Isles Speedway as well as a pair of American Billet Fast Time Awards. Lloyd saw many of the venues he competed at for the very first time when he pulled through the gates.

“We are kind of accustomed to the bigger tracks like we have around home. So we had quite a learning curve when we got to some of these places. But I think we improved every time we went back to a place. We had a lot of fun chasing this deal and my hat is off to Mark and his crew on a great battle for this championship. We plan on trying to run the whole deal again next year. We really want to win a race.” said Lloyd in a Cleveland Speedway post race interview. [more]

As we begin the 2007 racing season, our lobby group must be as strong as ever. We now must battle nationwide as crate engines are taking over from Florida to Oregon, Southern California to New York. We must unite with a loud competitive voice. Our crate competitors have brought $250,000 in point funds to local tracks and presented over $80,000 to their champion at their PRI booth this year. Being innovative together through R.A.C.E. we can unify racers, promoters, engine builders, media and manufacturers. R.A.C.E. will be inclusive unlike the crate series which excludes our products from being eligible for their point funds.

R.A.C.E. can help people live their dreams and reach their goals through direct connected point funds, training tech people, getting involved with rule meetings and sanction huge events. R.A.C.E. can guarantee a future by growing our customer base by bringing money back into the racers hands so they can have freedom of choice to choose quality innovative aftermarket parts.

We are currently building our '07 advisory committee to allocate funds review rules and market products to the public. Promoters, WD's, manufacturers, engine builders, racers, media, and sponsors will all be represented. To participate in R.A.C.E. '07 call 262-593-5801 or email to propower@centurytel.net and ask for Bill or John or email to richardisky@aol.com.

For many in the racing industry, the issue of crate engines in oval track racing is one of the most important topics of our time. It was the subject of a meeting attended by roughly 200 race engine builders and parts manufacturers at this year's Performance Racing Industry Trade Show.

The issue involves the concern that crate engines can destroy oval track racing by removing a key element of the competition for race fans, in addition to potentially harming the excitement of the show. Also, race engine builders in oval track racing are reporting that crate engines are harming their businesses.

R.A.C.E. (Racers Alliance Concerning Engines) organized the meeting on Friday morning, December 15. It was led by race engine builders Bill Schlieper, of Pro Power Racing, in Sullivan, Wisconsin, and Keith Dorton, of Automotive Specialists, in Concord North Carolina, along with Richard Iskenderian of Isky Racing Cams, Gardena, California.
